The SuperSpeech & Language Connection
Fine Motor Play
New for 2010!
The current focus of education supports higher academic standards, thus placing increased demands on children. As a result, many pre-k and elementary school students lack the necessary fundamental motor development and/or skills to successfully participate and perform in their respective educational environments.
Led by a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Fine Motor Play helps bridge that gap creating a fun and effective way to develop and improve these essential skills in a small group atmosphere. It is designed to assist children with meeting their developmental milestones by providing kids with fine and visual motor exercises/activities as well as sensory experiences.
Fine Motor Play focuses on the following:
- Bilateral Coordination
- Upper Body Strengthening
- Fine Motor Control and Dexterity
- Direction Following
- Social Relatedness and Thinking
- Receptive and Expressive Language Development
Each session begins with upper body warm up exercises that promote strength, motor planning and bilateral coordination. Children then participate in a variety of arts & crafts activities and sensory experiences designed to promote hand control, dexterity and coordination. Social thinking as well as overall language development is encouraged and addressed throughout each session.
Goals are established at the beginning of each 8-week program and parents are provided with a progress summary at the end of the program. Your child's therapy is a team approach between the therapist and families, therefore the last 10 minutes of each 60 minute session is open consultation with parents to discuss carry over activities which we believe are essential to your child's progress.
Fine Motor Play is an 8 week program that meets weekly for 1 hour. Groups are formed based on strengths, “stretches” and age. Maximum 4 children per group.
